Integrations made easy, but how?

According to Forresters Now Tech Integration Platforms Q2 2021, the number of applications and data sources are exploding as the digital transformation unfolds. This can cause integration problems. Maybe you are unable to automate your business processes because your data is spread across several systems? Or maybe your users complain about time-consuming manual tasks as information is spread across multiple applications? The answer to these challenges is obvious: integration.

So why haven’t you integrated your systems already?

Because integrations are tricky.

Complex application landscape

Your system portfolio is likely a mix of SaaS, in-house solutions, and customized off-the-shelf software (COTS) – all with different web service definition standards in REST and SOAP, making the integrations extra complicated and costly. You may also need to get data from external registers and services.

How some no-code platforms handle integrations

No-code platforms promise to speed up the development of applications, including your integrations. However, there are differences in how they handle integrations that you should be aware of.

Some no-code platforms rely on connectors to integrate between systems. Connectors are premade integrations to well-known services, like SAP, Office365, Google Drive, etc. Connectors enable developers to solve integrations quickly with ease. So, what is the catch?

No no-code platform has connectors for the unique web services of your in-house solutions or customized COTS. This will force you to use additional tools, such as pro-code or maybe a specialized integration platform to solve business needs. Although this may technically solve your problems, you end up with several systems which is a more complex and costly solution.

Integrate with anything

Genus handles integrations between any system, including those with unique web services. Developers are free to define the data structure and logic necessary to integrate with your services while staying true to the no-code promise of increased development speed.

Genus also enables you to create new web services in minutes, exposing data needed by other applications in your portfolio. You are free to include any object, data fields, or calculations in your web service definition. In addition, you may integrate using non-web service techniques, such as batch file import/export and database-based integrations with ease.

Real-life example

For reference, my most recent delivery to a customer in the public safety sector was a tailored dynamic case management system with the following integrations:

–        4 web services to in-house solutions

–        4 web services to national registers

–        1 web service to an international tip-off solution

–        6 database-based to in-house solutions

The solution, including all the integrations, was developed using only Genus and delivered on time.
